The Rhode Island Space Grant program engages every institution of Higher Learning through internships, fellowships, seed research grants, and other opportunities that bring NASA’s mission of discovery and exploration into the State.  We provide substantial support for 25 to 30 students each year at 10 colleges and universities and allow students to compete in various NASA Challenges, such as RI’s first satellite (CubeSat).  We also connect with the public and K-12 students through partnerships with museums and selected school districts, impacting more than 40,000 people each year.  Most recently we developed and sponsored a wide range of activities focused on the 50th Apollo Landing that reached 80,000 people through public events including: an art installation (23-foot Moon globe); three different museum exhibits; public engagement through our Affiliates at WaterFire Providence; astronaut talks; and public “space chats.” We are looking for matching funds that would allow expanding our reach to capture students (especially underrepresented) at all levels in STEM through diverse and creative ways.
